    Harper’s Weekly
    1862
This is a wood-engraved single sheet only which is
    over 150 years old
! It was published in the
    May 17, 1862
    , issue of
    Harper's Weekly
, America's leading illustrated paper in the mid-1800s. It measures 11 x 16 inches in size. It has some minor browning marks from age (see photos), but remains in excellent, attractive overall condition.
The page presents three scenes of Civil War action at Fort Macon in Beaufort, Georgia, sketched by “our special artist,” Angelo Wiser. The main view is a large horizontal panoramic drawing captioned,
    “Bombardment of Fort Macon.”
Below it are a pair of smaller views, captioned
“Fort Macon from the Upper Parapet,”
    and
“The Fifth Rhode Island Regiment Entering Fort Macon.”
On the reverse side of the sheet is a lengthy article of about 150 lines of text in small print, describing in detail the capture of Fort Macon by Union forces under General Burnside.
