Description
Up for sale is a WW1 48 Star American Flag. I bought this flag at an estate sale. I was told the decease was the son of a WW1 veteran. The flag was inside a treasure chest, hand-made by the same WW1 veteran. The chest had beautifully detailed features/information of the key battles during WW1 (Battle of the Marne, St. Mihiel/Vesle, Meuse/Argonne, during the fall of 1918) and the soldiers in the 39th Infantry that he served with. I made a handsome offer for the treasure chest because the flag really belongs with it and it would be a great provenance. Unfortunately, it was not for sale so the best I can do was to take some pictures for proof. There are two writings on the Flag. The name "Guy Genung" and the stamp marked "Jewel About". I spent a lot of time researching the two prints on the flag. I was not able find anything on the "Jewel About" stamp, which means maybe the company is too old and not around anymore. If anyone knows about the "Jewel About" stamp please let me know. Just when I was about to give up, I was able to find the name on the flag and validated that he served in the 39th Infantry during WW1 and received the Purple Heart Medal! See picture #12.This flag deserves to be mounted and preserved!
Please notice there is a picture on the treasure chest of a soldier carrying the US flag. It's the same size of the flag for sale. I can't help thinking, perhaps, this might be the flag, but I can't make the claim without clear evidence.
Condition is used, but still in excellent shape for a 100-year old flag. There are some tiny holes. Shipped FedEx Mail.
