If you’re looking for a European supercar but Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis and others are out of your budget or not to your taste, why not consider this Aston Martin DB7 Volanté? This rarely seen volanté or cabriolet model is rarely offered with a 5-speed and with a six-cylinder engine between 1996 and 1999. It was one of only 895 Volanté I6s made between 1996 and 1999.
This example, which was made in Bloxham, Oxfordshire, England, is dressed in competition yellow, complete with a black, power-folding canvas top. The top is in very good order while the paint and trim are in overall excellent shape but there are a few minor blemishes visible at close range on the driver’s side trunk lid and at the base of the driver’s side A-pillar. The bodywork is straight and solid, there are foglights, the engine bay is very tidy, the car’s body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body. There is a discret K40 laser difser installed and comes complete with original DB7 owners manual.
This DB7 rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport all-season radials, size 245/40ZR18 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a factory alloy wheel. The wheels are in very good order while the tires are in good, original order.
Under that forward-hinged hood is a 3.2L, DOHC, 24-valve, supercharged, straight six-cylinder engine (code AJ6) with a single Eaton M90 ‘Roots’ supercharger. It was hand-built by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd., Banbury, England and the final inspector was Steve Gray. Vehicle No. 2*266. The engine has a Zytec engine management system with a multi-point sequential fuel injection and electronic distributorless ignition system breathes via dual tailpipes and is backed by the desirable Getrag 290.711 five-speed manual transmission plus a GKN Powerlock limited-slip differential with a 3.54:1 rear end. Driver convenience features are plentiful – electronic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel and ventilated disc brakes, tilt steering column, cruise control, power windows, power locks, power mirrors and power front seats.
Safety equipment includes Teves Mark IV four-wheel anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags.
Inside, the car is finished in black, Connolly Leather – the front buckets and rear demi-buckets and the three-spoke steering wheel. The seats are trimmed in yellow piping to complement the car’s exterior and are all in great shape, as is the corresponding black Firth carpet and Alcantara headliner. The emergency brake, steering wheel rim, shifter surround and door panel inserts are all finished in burred walnut veneer to lend some warmth to the interior. The black instrument panel features a full array of gauges. It and the inner door panels are all in very good condition. The center console looks great. A floor-mounted shift lever and an aftermarket AM/FM stereo with CD player complete the interior.
The DB7 was a grand tourer which was produced by British luxury automobile manufacturer Aston Martin from September 1994 to December 2004. The car was available either as a coupé or a convertible. The six-cylinder DB7 (based on the Jaguar AJ6 engine) was positioned as the model below the hand-built V8 Virage introduced a few years earlier.
The DB7, known internally as the XX project, was made mostly with resources from Jaguar Cars and had the financial backing of the Ford Motor Company, owner of Aston Martin from 1988 to 2007. The DB7’s platform is an evolution of the Jaguar XJS platform, though with many changes. The convertible Volante version was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show held in Detroit in 1996.
Convertible competition to this Aston Martin in 1998 included BMW’s M3, Chevrolet’s Corvette, Jaguar’s XKR, Pontiac’s Firebird Trans Am and Porsche’s 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
Aston Martins from this era are getting harder to find and this is a rare edition of the grand tourer breed. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to look over this special English cabriolet.
