This original double-sheet Harper's Weekly engraving
of areas surrounding Fredericksburg, Virginia with
8 vignettes or scenes depicting the buildup of Union Forces prior to the main battle of Dec.11-15, 1862.  Artist:  A.R. Waud
The large central scene is titled: "Exchanging Salutations with the Enemy". Then clockwise from upper left: "Warrenton, Junction", "Genl Burnside's Headquarters at Weaverville", "Street in Warrenton Va.", "Searching the Map for the right Road", "Fredericksburg from Falmouth", "Railroad Bridge over Cedar Run" and "Catlett Station Va."
This engraving generally speaks to the slow preparation and timid leadership of the Union Army which allowed time for Confederate reinforcements to deploy contributing to the decisive defeat of the Union forces.
The engraving is framed in a vintage hardwood frame. Matting is in good condition.

frame: 19 1/2" h. x 25 1/2" w.
Condition: Very Good, no tears, stains, discoloration or other visible damage. Retains original hand coloring.
