    Description

    This type of French Gallian Binoculars / Field Glasses date from after 1891up through WW1, many were purchased by French Allies during WWI due to critical optical instrument shortages.  The left extension tube is engraved in block letters "U.S. SIGNAL" and right extension tube is engraved "ARMY & NAVY" .  The forward face of the yoke for the tubes has a very small stamping "MADE IN FRANCE". Left eye piece has raised letters markings "CHEVALIER"  "PARIS".  Right Eye Piece has raised letters markings "DAY & NIGHT GLASS"   Clear, bright optics, about 7 power.
    Made by Chevalier Opticians of Paris France,  Brass construction with all black paint / enamel finish. Pupil eye pieces are winged to rear on outer sides for reducing sun glare.   Designed with NO SLIDING SUN SHIELD / HOODS - Black leather body covering is one piece on each side.  Stands 6 3/4" closed and 8 1/4" fully extended..  Large Objective lens  i believe French 21 Ligers , approximately 1 5/6" / 48mm  Diameter.
