This weight machine uses a system the company refers to as isokinetic resistance.  In devising the system, Nordic Track has adapted technology that has been used mainly for physical therapy. Rather than using weights or bands, the machine operates on a clutch mechanism that spins with centrifugal force as you push or pull. Internal spring-loaded brake pads add resistance depending on the force applied. With isokinetic, the harder you push, the more resistance you get. With the Nordic Flex Gold, there are no sticking points, parts of a movement that are harder than others. When lifting barbells over the head, for example, there is a point at which it gets harder before it becomes easier.
In addition to the variable resistance provided by the clutch mechanism, the pull cable can be re-routed through the pulley system to either double or triple the resistance through within each operational band, depending on whether the user wants to tone or build their muscle, or if larger muscle groups require more resistance to achieve the desired goal.
Both men and women can benefit from strength training. It enhances muscular endurance and athletic performance, improves posture, helps in weight-loss formulas and, especially for women, helps to reduce the loss of bone mass that comes from osteoporosis.
The machine is inherently safe and can be operated independently without a spotter. Other than the minimal weight of the tow carriage, there are no dead weights to drop or get pinned underneath.
