    Handsome original antique engraving of the major Civil War engagement also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, fought April 6-7, 1862 in southwestern Tennessee.
    This dramatic view was engraved by William Ridgway from a drawing by Felix Octavius Carr Darley. It is titled
    Battle of Shiloh, Tenn. Charge of General Grant.
    The image area measures 12.8 x 18.8 cm [5" x 7½"], and the engraving was published in Volume Two of Robert Tomes'

    New York: Virtue & Yorston, 1862-1867.
    The printed text in the lower margin reads: "Entered according to act of Congress AD. 1863, by Virtue & Co. in the clerk's office of the district court of the United States, for the southern district of N.Y."

    This view captures the drama of the Battle of Shiloh's second day, when Grant counterattacked and drove the Confederates back to Shiloh Church, a major victory for Union forces.
    Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston was killed during the Battle of Shiloh. He was the highest ranking general on either side killed during the war.
