    Description

Pinolith Unpolished Stone Slab Lapidary Rock
This lovely and very rare material is known as
    Pinolith
    or
    Pinolite
    .
This natural unpolished semi precious stone slab is 4.4 inches by 3.3 inches and 6 mm thick
    .
It weighs .24 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
This very rare material was actually first discovered in 1873 and comes from only one location in the world-the magnesite deposit at Sunk, Hohentauern, Niedere Tauern, Styria, Austria.
It is a metamorphic rock containing magnesite as crystals in a dolomite and graphite matrix. It is named Pinolith because the magnesite inclusions resemble pine cones in shape.
This material is a 3.5 to 4.5 hardness and this piece could be recut.
