    Description

    Antique 19th Century Bayonet
This is a rare, German, made in Solingen, using a French model M1874 ,Gras Bayonet.  It is marked on the blade with : Alex Coppel, Sollingen, with a scale of justice.   Marked on the guard is the initials LR and a royal crown symbol.  This stands for Leopoldus Rex II, the king of Belgium in the late 1800's.  This was probably a contract for bayonets used when Belgium took the Congo as a colony.  The overall length of the bayonet is 25 1/2" and length of the blade is 20 1/2".  The bayonet shows wear and aging on the blade and handle.
